the tree is everything carlet has decided, kept and cut together. the spine running down the center is the line, the kept tine from every turn in order. the cut tines branch off the spine at each fork. each node shows its label and its measure, real or a single dash. the gap on a cut tine is how far short of the kept tine it fell.
